Power to the People: Uplifting African American Communities​
Achieving a Florida ASLA Award of Honor, alongside my partner “Power to the People” centers around Porters: A historically African American community in Gainesville, Florida. Considering residents’ testimonials regarding the encroachment on their community, this proposal aims to uplift inspire, and celebrate the Porters Community. Diverse and adaptive typologies of site programming were created to tackle the issues affecting Porters at a broader scale.
Rooted In Sunshine: A Habitat for Humanity
Achieving a Florida ASLA Award of Honor, alongside my partners, “Rooted In Sunshine: A Habitat for Humanity” sought to enhance community integration within the framework of affordable housing development. Through cohesive design elements that accommodate individuality across each housing plot, we balanced maintaining design integrity and fostering cohesion while streamlining the blueprinting process for all lots, underscoring the notion of unifying a community through a democratic design paradigm.
Gemini: A Paynes Prairie Overlook
Gemini aimed to create a harmonious blend of the sculptural and the natural, existing as a unique 360-degree observation and outlook space within Paynes Prairie. Gemini encourages multiple exploration methods through different perspectives and access points that invite visitors to forge their path and immerse themselves in the expansive views of the prairie. Gemini serves as both a sculptural installation and a climbable platform, accentuating the contrast between the manufactured and the organic. It reflects the dual aspects of human nature, the desire to create and the responsibility to conserve
